Ballroom Marfa commissioned a new large-scale installation from San Antonio-based artist Franco Mondini-Ruiz presents titled Giant. The artwork was a massive, baroque assemblage of found objects that stretched across Ballroom’s front gallery floor. Giant is a continuation of Mondini-Ruiz’ signature practice of creating vignettes of culturally-fused visual components. The installation at Ballroom investigated the hybridization of Mexican-American identity and the culture of consumerism, and other pressing issues surrounding the border including politics, racial and class interactions, and cultural tourism.
