Ballroom Marfa proudly welcomed Grizzly Bear and the Papercuts for their February 24th performances at Liberty Hall on February 24th, 2007.

Grizzly Bear make gorgeous pop without invoking any of pop’s familiar cliches. A group that coalesced after founder Edward Droste’s homemade recordings became an underground sensation, these four young Brooklynites layer their sophisticated lyrical tableaux with harmonies, autoharps, organs, acoustic guitars, bells, and scraps of electronics. Grizzly Bear’s appearance in Marfa followed the acclaimed Yellow House, their 2006 suite of hypnotic pop experimentalism on Britain’s Warp records. Grizzly Bear were joined for the evening by San Francisco’s Papercuts, toured in support of their sophomore release Can’t Go Back.

The Papercuts are the brainchild of Jason Quever — multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer, and an integral force in the Bay Area’s thriving electronic pop scene. Anchored by Quever’s knack for melody and his distinctly blissful vocals, the Papercuts’ hazy, analogue atmospheres resonated the sumptuous space of Liberty Hall.
