Concert
Ballroom Marfa welcomed The Watson Twins back to West Texas for a March 14th spotlight engagement at Liberty Hall on March 14, 2007.
This concert was free and open to the public.
There’s more to the Watson Twins than just their lilting harmonies and Appalachian grace. To experience them in person is to experience that chemistry peculiar to siblings who’ve sung together since childhood. There is a splash of classic Nashville-style glamour about them, too, but don’t mistake twin sisters Chandra and Leigh Watson for retro throwbacks. If the Watson Twins grew up steeped in the traditions of their native Kentucky, it was their years of involvement alongside Los Angeles underground favorites like Earlimart and Jenny Lewis that endeared them to fans of country music and indie-rock alike. Their word-of-mouth reputation culminated with Southern Manners, an eight-song EP suffused with their exquisite voices and a hip indie-folk aesthetic; it has earned them critical accolades as well as the organizers’ pick as a 2007 highlight of Austin’s South By Southwest festival.
The Watson Twins were supported onstage by fellow Californians CB Brand. CB Brand is the dry rattle of the desert to the Watson Twins’ melancholy Southern melody. Led by singer Chad Brown, these four young musicians purvey a classic honky-tonk sensibility and a lean sound forged from years of backroads touring.
